Brendan McKinley – “Star”

Sound Artist

"My aim is trying to show or explain how sound is seen or mechanically enchanted
to reproduce the sound in a Visual performance.
I like to make forms and machines in various materials and use different processes
 to create sound mapping"

"I was 19 when i went for an interview at art college" he explained. "The Interview
went well but i just didn't have the grades in English and Maths"

The 49 year-old gave up on his dream of becoming an artist and got on with his life
working in a pharmaceutical factory. He always had a love of everything creative
and spent much of his spare time playing Music. He had even played with the likes
 of Stiff Little Fingers.

But his first love was always art and 28 years after he gave up on his dream, he
went back to try again. This time he was accepted into art college and has recently
 graduated.

"A key part of this radical work using wood and it's inherent meaning is a relation
to sound, sound waves and patterns"

"Synaesthesia has a big influence on my art, this taps into my minds eye, showing how
i see patterns and forms alike. Sonic cartography plays a role when building up an
idea on paper, like a blueprint or the nuts and bolts or thinking shown on paper.

I have an inventive but arty perception when creating, working from drawing and image
in order to produce gallery pieces.

Pushing the envelope has always been my drive and viewer interactive participation
is very important so the public can understand the concept by getting involved.
